Avengers Fanfic/Fanworks Search Community

I've seen this in real life (usually with kids), and in movies.  I've seen thin in other fanfic fandoms (The Sentinel and Magnificent Seven, to name two).  I'm wondering if this has been done for the Avengers.  It could be after a battle, on the trip back home.  Or maybe after a long day and they get together to go out to dinner.  The team/group gets to their destination or they're almost there, when someone thinks to do a headcount and realizes somebody is missing.  One of them was lagging behind, or in the bathroom maybe, and got left behind withoug someone noticing for the longest time.  What happens then?  Do they rush back, embarrassed and ashamed or do they say "fuck it, we'll worry about it later, he/she didn't want to be with us anyway."

The thought came up while reading the extras for the First Impressions and Second Chances series where Tony Stark isn't wanted on the team and every friendly gesture and gift from him is met with scorn and finally violence.  But the outside/forgotten person doesn't have to be Stark; it could be any one of them.  (I'd love to see Darcy kick ass and take names if the group went out for a "family" dinner and forget she was in her apartment changing clothes or something and came back to the common floor to find it empty.)   Or maybe the team goes to some event and the press is there as they get out of the limo and they're asked "Hey, where is (whoever) and they realize they've forgotten someone.

Now that it's complete, I'm reading the Avengers/Supernatural/Night Vale crossover series by Setcheti called The Last Chance Diner at AO3.  Steve admires Dean's protection tattoo and bemoans the fact that he can't get a tat because they fade quickly.  With a little help from Bruce they figure out how Steve can keep a tattoo fresh (drawn on instead of inked in).  I don't usually like a lot of tattoos because they tend to look messy and not particularly artful, but the thought of a shirtless Steve Rogers with a full sleeve or chest done is intriguing, to say the least.  So...my first question is does anyone know of any drawings or artwork showing Cap with tattoos?  Question #2 is a search for any stories with Steve getting one or more tattoo.  How about the same for any of the other Avengers or the family (Jane, Pepper, Darcy, Phil, Bucky).  There is some fiction out and about with Clint and/or Coulson with ink from their military days;  that's too easy.  I was thinking more like a whole sleeve, maybe telling a story or about an event.  In Setcheti's story it a picture incorporating memories of Bucky and protection sigils.

I'm just tagging any and all possibles I think may fit.

I jsut read a story where Tony is hurt that the team forgot his birthday and at the end JARVIS threatens a bit of payback of they forget again next year.  (Search the AO3 archives 6-2-15 to find it.)  That got me wondering if there were any stories where JARVIS actually did get vengeful against the team for hurting Tony, not so much physically (that too), but hurt his feelings by dissing him or leaving him out of a team outing or just ignoring him when he tries to do something special for them.  I've read stories where they treat him badly (any new ones welcome here BTW), but what I'm looking for now is where JARVIS and/or Dummy, You, and Butterfingers step up to protect their 'daddy' from any further hurt.

With the six Avengers and all the people around them that be counted as part of the team or support, somebody might have used this plot line for this fandom.  I read this originally in an X-Files story.  I do remember that it had the central four characters: Mulder, Scully, Skinner, and Krycek, but it's been several years since I read it so I don't remember who dumped who to be with who, so I'll just refer to any four as A, B, C, and D.

A and B are dating/sleeping together/living together, whichever.  A is totally in love with B.  C, who has been away/missing/out of the picture, suddenly shows back up.  B and C used to be together and B is still in love with C.  B throws A over to get back with C.  A is broken hearted but leaves quietly, knowing he was second choice anyway.  After a short, but intense time, D pops back in the picture. C is in love with D, only getting with B because D wasn't around.  C leaves B for D, same as B did to A.  After a length of time, D decides he cannot deal with C's intensity/crazyness/neediness/whatever and ends the relationship.  Brokenhearted, C goes back to B, who is ready to dump A again.  (Actually, I think somewhere along the line the dumped one get fed up with the whole thing and tells the returning ex to shove it.)  Get the picture?  I hope this isn't as confusing to you as it's becoming to me.  It's basically a vicious game of musical lovers, with uncaring lovers and broken hearts all around.

Goddess, I really don't want to tag every possible pairing that can come out of this...

After reading a couple of stories with a similar storyline I'd like to find any where Tony and (insert Avenger name here) are together and the others are 'protective' of the other person.  Nobody, not even Pepper, bothers to look past Tony's reputation as a raging playboy so they're all just waiting for him to start cheating on his new lover (usually Steve but I'll accept anybody on the extended team).  When the other person's attitude changes, everyone assumes it's because Tony's been cheating (or any other reaston to assume) but it's the other way around and Tony knows telling the truth won't do him any good.  So he's silent while his heart breaks and the others turn on him and support the silent cheater.  That could be either emotionally or physically.  I've already read two such stories which either got lost in the shuffle of new fic or a WIP that I marked but didn't download.  The first starts out with Natasha punching Tony and breaking his cheek.  Tony later falls in love with another guy who dies of cancer.  The second one has Tony coming home early to find Steve having sex with a woman on the couch.  Steve's a jerk in this one, hating the fact that he's in love with a man and not liking the woman he's staying with only because he knocked her up.  (Both of those stories I found searching this site, so they can be found with a bit of work...okay, the first one is "Newborn" at fanfiction.net)  Thanks, all.

Just read parts of a story called Forgive Us Our Trespasses where Tony is taken to an isolated room or apartment and locked away for weeks while his team hunts downa telepath who was targeting Tony.  The problem is that Tony doesn't wasn't told of the threat, was given no explanation for why he was locked up with no contact from anyone, and had nothing to do or to tinker with to occupy his always active mine.  The story's timeline jumped around so it was kind of hard for me to read.  But I'd love to find any other stories with a similiar theme.  Tony Stark (or any of the other team members) feeling betrayed by the rest of the team doing something that they thought was best, for his own good, but totally losing his trust.  Enough where he shys away from the team, pulls all his projects out of SHIELD, and maybe dissappears for awhile, or kicks them out of the tower.  There's a total schism in the team that may or may not heal with time.

I've been reading different fandoms of fanfic for about a decade now and have run across this scenario in the likes of The Sentinel, Magnificent Seven, Buffy, Criminal Minds, and X-Files. Woke up this morning wondering if anyone had written such stories for The Avengers/Iron Man/Captain America/Hulk. Still working as part of the group, one member is kept/pushed outside of the circle socially or during downtime. Or forgotten once the battle is over and left to make their own way home. When parties or nights out are planned one person is left out, not even thought of to invite. Not so much like, "Oh, Bruce won't come, he doesn't drink," but the odd man out coming to the kitchen for a late night glass of water to find the others just getting in from a party he/she knew nothing about.

I just read most of the series First Impressions and Second Chances by lilsmartass where Steve and Clint, with the backing of Fury and Hill, let Tony know that, outside of the actual battles, he wasn't wanted, wasn't part of the team, even rejecting every gift or weapons upgrade Tony brought them. Harsh story but it left me wondering if there were any more like that, with any of the Avengers family left 'out in the cold'.

And the tags are just guidelines for what I'm looking for, not set in stone.


Update: Reading the stories suggested in a post from January I found "An Acceptable Loss" by RandomSlasher where Coulson wakes up alone in a Pennsylvania hospital about 4 months after the Battle of New York, with no sign of any visitors and no change in his apartment when he finally makes his own way back to NY. He feel totally abandoned and thinks that he was wrong in thinking that any of the team or even Fury were his friends. Turns out to be a paperwork glitch that made everyone think he was dead.

Any story like that one, where someone thinks that he/she is on the outside, even though it was never the case, also covers what I'm looking for here. And check out that story; its a good one.
