Hey everyone!

I'm looking for fics in which Tony isn't as "happy" as he's portrayed in fics and the movies. As in, okay, everyone knows that he's not actually happy, and that he's had a really bad past, and he's broken in so many ways, just as badly as anyone else on the team. Just because he went through a different type of torture to Clint and Natasha doesn't mean it was any less devastating. But I think people on the team, and in SHIELD forget it because he's so lighthearted and "happy" all the time, and it's difficult to imagine him having a past even comparable to the rest of the Avengers, who are darker, and more somber.

I'm looking for fics in which something happens and Tony shows his anger, and his darkness. And I want the others to be surprised. I want him to be angry, and cold, and dark, and absolutely nothing like the Tony Stark we (they) know. And then the others realise that it's a mask, and a lie, and that they've been underestimating him all this while. And maybe Tony will realise that he's slipped and he'll pull his mask back on, or something.

Okay, maybe too specific, but I'm essentially looking for fics in which Tony is covering his darker nature and temperment and it slips one day, and the others realise they've been duped all this while.

Anyone? I really hope I'm not blathering on, but. Yeah. I'm good with most pairings but for these kinds of fics I love Tony/Loki.

Tony/Loki does tend to make Tony a bit less happy-go-lucky than is normal. I really like how he is portrayed in Lead Me Not Into Temptation; I Can Find The Way Myself: http://archiveofourown.org/works/580413?view_full_work=true. Amoral!Tony, but one that can function in society, which requires some good characterisation to be believable, and this author pulls it off.

Tony's darker side, his cynicism of the open-mindedness of the human race especially, shows in a lot of fics where JARVIS as an Artificial Intelligence plays a large role, especially if his discovery is a theme. The best fic I've found in this trope is a series of conversations between Tony, Bruce and JARVIS (gen), the JARVIS series by icarus_chained: http://archiveofourown.org/series/23817

I am going to have to go back through my links when I have some more time, but I think I have a few bookmarked.

Understanding doesn't feature Tony as a character too much, but instead it is the Avengers watching the Iron Man movie thanks to a mysterious force (Loki, you aren't as sneaky as you think you are) and coming to the realization of just how much Tony went through and how much he has suffered. Very good story.

Agnizing and Refrence Pages has the Avengers getting insight into Tony's actual thoughts. They aren't nearly as easy going and lecherous as the team may have thought. Pretty dark actually.

There are many more by this author that really bring Tony's darker side into focus. And I'd second the other respondent's recommendation of icarus_chained's works.

If I get time I'll see what else I can dig up and I'll be interested in seeing what other people recommend. I think the sound of this request.

Oh! Yes, whoa! Those look like pretty much what I was looking for! Thank you very much! And yeah, same here. I mean, I love comedicgenius!Tony, but I kinda want something to sink my teeth into. In the least (or most?) kinky way possible. Imma stop while I'm ahead here.

I'd read another story about someone kidnapping all of the Avengers, forcing Stark to show up and offer his own life in ransom, but really?....It would definitely go more like "A Good Man"
