I'm looking for stories where Phil grew up hearing stories and reading about Captain America and how that helped shaped his life. I'm also looking for stories where Phil is told that Steve's plane has been found.

Where little boy called Flip grows up reading Captain America comic books and occasionally rescuing an action figure. Also dealing with family problems and pushing himself beyond limits to become Agent Coulson we know and love.

"Little and Broken..." is great, but I have to recommend going beyond that one. That story is #20 in a series of either 33 or 38 stories (depending on location) that is just wonderful, one of my favorites Avengers series and one that I've read several times. In attempting to get the Avengers together for some team building exercises, Coulson realizes that they've all (except for maybe Steve) had crappy childhoods. So he gets them to regress and roll play as children together one night a week, with him as Uncle Phil. With JARVIS's help he gets them dolls, board games, fingerpaints, even PJs to match their personalities.. It makes them a tighter team. They're later joined by Bucky and Betty Ross.
