Any Bucky stories?

Hi there,
I'm new to this fandom.
I mean I saw every movie but till I saw "Civil War"  I wasn't paying much attention.
That changed obviously and now I'm looking for stories.

So can you show me the way to your most favorite Bucky or Winter Soldier stories?
I take nearly everything *grin* and nearly every pairing (Steve/Bucky, Bucky/OC but I don't get the whole Reader thing)

Or the way to your most favorite Captain America stories?

I totally second Ipseity and This, You Protect. SkyIs Gray who wrote Ipseity is a great author, you should look her other sutff too after you gorge yourself out on canon!Bucky, her AU stuff is excellent (There's one fic, That Reflection Man, which is based more on Political Animals than Captain America, but the the angst is delicious, and her Captain America/Winter Soldier fic is great, masked sex ftw lol) This, You Protect, on the other hand, is a change of pace when you get tired of the heavy angst because it balances it with humour so well. The scene where Bucky apologizes to Sam is possibly the most hilarious thing in this fandom.

All my recs are Steve/Bucky, since this is what I ship. Not so long ago I took a look at ff.net and what seemed to dominate there is Bucky/OFC so if you sort by reviews or favorites, you're likely to find some that aren't Mary Sue fics. And if you sort by characters, I'm sure you'll find a healthy amount of Bucky/Natasha since it's Marvel canon. FF.net is generally where you will find more het fics than AO3.

I really, really recommend The Man On The Bridge (http://archiveofourown.org/series/126960) series by boopboop. It's one of the most reviewed Bucky fics on AO3, and for a good reason. Bucky's really fucked up in this one, lots of action. Oddly enough, the entire main fic is from Tony's POV and yet is still an agsty all-about-Bucky story. And if you are up to another long AU, boopboop has also comitted a Political Animals fusion which rivals MCU in Bucky angst or even surpasses it, "Snake Eyes".

The Ungraceful Art of Falling by buckyfuckybarnes (http://archiveofourown.org/works/4929256) - Starting from WWII, Bucky pining after Steve through Bucky becoming the Winter Soldier into the post-TWS era. I just LOVE that fic, it's really emotional.

This Is My Last Breath by FlyByNightGirl (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2741975) - Bucky and Steve (mostly Bucky) from Brooklynn, through WWII, through brainwashing in Russia (this fics spends some time on what it took to create the Winter Soldier) through the post TWS stuff and Bucky's recovery. Just be warned that this fic is LONG (like, over 700k long) and there are a few (not too many, but a few) things that could make you roll your eyes.


Not Easily Conquered by dropdeaddream, WhatAreFears () - Steve centric, in wich Steve survives, marries Peggy and then the love letter of James Buchanan Barnes get published, scandal breaks out, but the letters become a war literature staple. Years pass by and then the Winter Soldier appears. It's one of the best written, most intelligent and most heartbreaking fics in the fandom and it even has the happy ending!

Zhelaniye by Nonymos (http://archiveofourown.org/works/6714097) is post-Civil War Steve/Bucky fic, but cenetered more on Steve and how he deals with Bucky's decision to go back into ice, but still explains pretty well why Bucky decided to do so. And he gets deprogrammed too.

Ghosts Love Elevators by thecommodore_squid (http://archiveofourown.org/works/6365386) is a lighter AU in which Winter Soldier Bucky is sent to asassinate a sickly artist Steve Rogers.

To the One I've Sinned Against by Dira Sudis (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1777381) - on the shorter side, Bucky goes to various churches looking for punishment. The priests in confessionals have different ideas though.


Five Times Through the Fallout by Blink_Blue (http://archiveofourown.org/works/1993095) - in which Brock Rumlow falls for the Winter Soldier and can't stand the fact that his fucked up love isn't reciprocated.

Thawed Out by auburnnothenna (auburn), eretria (http://archiveofourown.org/works/2832257) - a Bucky recovery fic, lots of angst but he gets better.

Many fics by alcibiades (http://archiveofourown.org/users/alcibiades/pseuds/alcibiades/works?fandom_id=586439) especially "a little light in your black sea" series in which Bucky makes friends with Jarvis and Papper Potts, gets a job and generally tries to go back to being a human being. Plus, she writes really hot porn if you're into that.

your blue-eyed boys by Feather (lalaietha) (http://archiveofourown.org/series/107477) - another Bucky recover fic, which I loved because it involved sort of domestic life and neighbors etc, not just Avengers. First part in more Steve-centring, the second more Bucky-centric.

Code of Conduct by Jay Tryfanstone (http://archiveofourown.org/works/4558230) - in which finding Bucky doesn't go as anyone expects. It's on the shorter side, and more on the light than ansty side. Good antidote for all the previous angst fics.

If you sort by Kudos or reviews on AO3 you'll get the most popular stories, maybe something will catch your eye. This way, you'll mostly get older stories though, the new ones haven't been long enough to amass a few thousand kudos and they've got more competition too.
