Loki Appreciation Recs, please! :)

So, I just finished reading Refracted, by BeesKnees and now I have a craving (especially as while the story was great, it didn't end the way I'd been hoping).

1) Are there any other fics out there that are similar to this? One where the Avengers/Thor/Everyone gains a better understanding/appreciation for Loki? Maybe they realize that he hasn't been treated very well (probably before his, um, misdeeds) for him to feel so isolated and bitter and unloved? Or after for him to have turned out like this? IDK, maybe some horrible things have happened to him (before, after, whenever)? (I loved how Thor from the alternate reality treated Loki in the above mentioned fic!)

I'm a big fan of angst where there's abuse, suicide attempts, torture, rape, and other dark happenings going on with Loki so long as there is a happy ending (and a lovely hurt/comfort recovery process)! ♥

2) Or, barring that, are there any fic (Loki/Thor would be lovely, but Gen or other Slash ships are fine too) where Thor is especially protective/overprotective/just wants to hang out with/loves the best he can with Loki? Kind of like this fic.

Basically, I just want Loki love and appreciation from basically everyone (while still as in character as they can be) even if there has to be some hurts beforehand. I want them to be made better and, if it's not angsty/hurty/dark, a long-suffering Loki is best.

I've read, probably, dozens of post
Avengers fics where Thor brings Loki back to Stark's tower and the rest of the Avengers deal, or don't deal, well with his presence. I can't think of anything which has all of them supportive of him, but I can think of a few where some of them are. Would you like recs for any of these stories?

And if your request for angst fic is separate from the above trope I've found the best way is to search AO3 by typing in their search box keywords like "Loki PTSD" (227 results came up for that one). You might want to do these searches and browse through the results - maybe read a few comments on stories you're interested in. (Or do like I do - read the endings first. :-)

Yes, please! Anything! My birthday is in 2 days (8/14) and it would be a great birthday present!

I don't know, but I really love all that dark/angst fic so long as there's a happy ending (good idea checking the ending first). And if not dark, then like animal transformation, time loop, crack-y, kidfic, bodyswap, something ridiculous and high on humor. I best like either sides of the spectrum -- really funny or really angsty. xD

I've tried that but I keep coming across (6 times in one day!) Thor raping Loki or Loki raping Thor -- and half the time, it's not tagged as rape (and, this might sound horrible, but I don't mind non-con so long as it's not one of the boys doing it to the other -- I went them to comfort/help the other, not be the inflict-er).

So I'll be in 10-15k of a fic and then BAM. It's all for nothing and I have to stop because any chance of a relationship is ruined in my eyes from that point onward (for that fic).

I guess I'm sort of temporarily weary about it now. ;__; I was also hoping that maybe I'd be recced a few things from places like LJ (which used to be so very ripe for the picking for fic). :) My LJ Skills are getting weak. o__o

I've been trying to think of recs for you - I know I've read quite a few.

It's weird - I haven't read that many partner rape fics in this fandom, not ones with the Avengers as part of the plot, anyway (vs. Asgard-based fics). But of course after you made this post the next two Avengrs-based fics I read were Thor rapes Loki.

I'll keep thinking of potential recs for you.

If you're OK with het, "A Morbid Taste for Ice" is an *amazing* story. The Avengers are only peripheral, the other main characters are Darcy Lewis, Jane Foster, and Nick Fury. There is major MAJOR angst and a damn good mystery storyline and exploration into issues I rarely see dealt with in Thor fic. She's currently posting on AO3, but it's complete here:

Isn't that just rotten luck then (regarding the partner rape)? =S But yeah, I'm relatively new to the fandom and I get that Loki isn't a good guy and I don't try to excuse him for his actions even if I only sort of understand his motivations... this is just a guilty pleasure trope of mine, so thank you so much to helping to enable it! <3

Anyway, thank you so so much for these recs! I will definitely give all of them a try! :) And I don't really have a lot of squicks, just partner rape/abuse (though Thor/Loki doesn't really apply to the abuse area since it's not the same as the domestic abuse I'm referring to... a lucky exception).

Would you mind being friends, perhaps? I don't have any friends to discuss this fandom with and it's been so long since I've been properly involved in a fandom that I'm no longer sure how to go about it.

I know exactly what you mean - I've been in fandom for, literally, decades, but things have changed so much I'm finding it difficult to make contact with people when I get into a new fandom. I just friended you, so feel free to friend back.

I got into Loki fandom last November, about one second after I saw "Thor: The Dark World" for the first time. I went right to AO3 and started reading fic, and because I read very quickly I've read thousands and thousands of pages since then.

I thought of another rec for you. Have you read Truthfully? It's very different in tone from most of what's out there because it was posted prior to the release of The Avengers. In this one, Loki fell directly to earth and has been causing a lot of mischief since then (but no fatalities) mainly to irritate the hell out of Thor. There is MAJOR angst from chapter 6 on, and he winds up in the care of the Avengers. Because this was written before the movie the characters the author most focuses on, besides Thor and Loki, are Tony Stark and Steve Rogers, because their movies had already come out at that point. Also, the setting is Tony's Malibu home, since again Stark Tower wasn't in canon at that time. There are a lot of great scenes between Thor and Loki, and Loki and Tony or Steve, along with an OFC who is very well depicted - she's not in the least bit Mary Sue.

One more rec. This was one of the fics I first read; I've since reread it and love it every bit as much as I did the first time. I didn't rec it earlier since it all takes place on Asgard and none of the Avengers characters show up until halfway through (and then they're very much involved with the plot). It's truly one of the best Loki angst fics I've read.

I added you back!! :D And yes! I don't know why it's so hard, but it absolutely is. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to get to know you better. Say, do you have Skype or any other instant messenger (I'm willing to download it to talk to you). It's an easier method of communication and, I have to admit, I'm not on LJ very often anymore.

I got into the fandom itself a few months ago. Maybe 2-3 when friend of mine forced me to sit down and watch it. It wasn't that I didn't want to watch it, mind, but that I'd been waiting for all the movies to be out before delving into it (I'm not very patient). xD I also had a lot of other things I was considering jumping into. Oh well, I don't regret it. I really love the fandom. <3

I don't have Skype or any other messenger service set up right now - I really need to join the current decade - but I just sent you a message about another way we can communicate.

I got into this fandom last November when I saw The Dark World. I'd seen all the other movies when they came out (except the Hulk movie, which I recently watched for the first time). I'd been tempted by the fandom after seeing "Thor", but I was swamped with RL demands and had to back away from fandom for a bit. When I saw TDW that interest roared right back to life and then some!!! I dove into the fic and haven't come up for air yet. ;-)

And yes, I'm a big fan of Loki angst/redemption/appreciation fic too, as you've doubtless guessed. :-D

I'm reading it right now and it's soooooo good. It's also really long, so I've been reading it for quite a few hours now... I'm at the bit where Loki discovers that Jack knows about him via the book (sneaky book! sneaky magic!). I can't wait to see what happens -- I can't wait to see how they reunite with Thor.
