I read a story on AO3 that dealt with the environmental impact of 50% of all human life turning to dust. Tony Stark has to develop something like Air Scrubbers to deal with the environmental disaster and essentially prevent the nuclear winter effect. Does this ring any bells?

I can't believe how long it took me to find this. I knew exactly the story you were looking for but could not find it even in my bookmarks. I blame it on the tags because they in no way actually help finding the story.
