I'm really new to the fandom, and I need the best Stony fic recs you guys have!  Long, plotty, angsty.  I love hurt/comfort (especially if it's hurt!Tony).  I also love protective (maybe even overprotective) Steve.  Happy endings are preferred, but other than that I have no triggers so anything's fair game.  Help a girl out, please!

Captain America and Iron Man had gotten off on the wrong foot - there was no question about that. Maybe it was because Tony Stark had grown up knowing, thanks to Howard, that Captain America would despise everything about him. Or maybe it was because Steve Rogers had no idea how to handle the world he had woken up in, and the man in the Iron Man armor was a dazzling display of everything the 'future' had to offer.

No matter the reason, things had not gone well during that initial meeting.

Tony was fine with that, honest. There was absolutely no pouting on his part because Cap didn't want to be his friend. He wasn't even that upset about the way Cap could hardly stand to look at him. It was fine. Completely. His feelings weren't hurt even a little.

Steve hasn't been able to look away from Tony since they met. Once his initial fumbling was over and he came to terms with the fact that he'd survived the crash after all... well. He'd fallen fast and hard for the flashy inventor. He just doesn't know how to get the idiot to understand that.

The Avengers get sent back in time to WWII where they run into the Howling Commandos... complete with Bucky and Steve. Little hard to explain that away, especially when you are trying to keep some major secrets. Secrets like how you ended up in the future and why the hell Bucky is now a scary (reformed) assassin with a metal arm, not to mention that you married your friend's son.

There were days when the realization that he was someone’s father made Steve's head hurt. Mostly he was grateful that he could trust his instincts, because Peter was what had been missing from his life. Yes, he still had lingering, unresolved issues from his time in the Army, and sure, he had what Bucky annoyingly referred to as a criminally untapped ass and no life outside of work and Peter, but Steve was okay with how his life had turned out because of trusting his instincts.

Unfortunately, those same instincts had straight up betrayed him by going absolutely haywire upon being exposed to Tony Stark.

Veteran single dad Steve runs a tattoo shop. For his 40th birthday, Pepper arranges for Tony to get that tattoo he always wanted, and he winds up with the mother of all crushes instead. Jumping out of airplanes is one thing, but falling in love is something else entirely. Steve struggles with the idea of actually letting someone into his life. Tony is left trying to keep his heart from being broken while Steve figures things out.
