Tony centric, Gen, plot driven
Jan. 17th, 2019 09:12 amHey guys, looking for long Tony centric stories with a plot that revolves around something else than him ending up in bed with someone. Just good old storytelling. A ship can be part of the story, but not its driving plotline. In that case Pepperony appreciated. Thanks for your recs.

The War is Far From Over Now by Dont_call_me_Carrie

WIP, 108K, last updated 12/2018
Summary: The world keeps pushing him, demanding, because what he did wasn't enough. Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist, but that wasn't enough, wasn't ever enough.
Tony Stark was tired. But he had a planet to protect, even if everyone laughed at him whenever the prospect of alien invasions was brought up. He could count on one hand how many people he could trust, which was disheartening but then, what else was new?
Or,
In which Tony does not, in fact, intend to take over the world.
...unfortunately, everyone else missed that particular memo.
[gradual divergence from canon, starting at the end of Iron Man 3. In which it's Tony's self-awareness, rather than his support system, that becomes a cryptid sometime during Phase II.]

Summary: What would have happened if Tony had left a certain glib answer in his pocket and went for something a little more badass.

To intervene by apathyinreverie

WIP, 59K, last updated 12/2018
Summary: The one where Rhodey stages an intervention after the whole Ultron fiasco and Tony re-evaluates his position on the team. Consequently, Tony is a little more removed from the Avengers and even has enough extra time on his hands to go talk to all the other superhumans who just might want to have some input on the Accords.
Ultimately: What would have happened if the Accords had not entirely hinged on the agreement of just the Avengers?

Veni, Vidi, Amavi by Maedlin

Completed, 51K
Summary: Tony's not the hero type. To suggest otherwise would be outlandish and fantastic, clearly.
Yet somehow, he's the one that's responsible for saving the universe. Now, he's a decade in the past. He's just revealed to the world he's Iron Man. Tony finds himself facing dozens of old problems, and as time passes the ripple effect of his presence generates ever more new issues.
All the while, the impending threat of Thanos looms ever-closer.
(Or: how I becomes we and Tony learns that not all burdens must be shouldered alone.)

Electric Veins by aliaoftwoworlds

WIP, 101K, last updated 12/2018
Summary: The vibranium shield was Steve’s pride and joy. It was a symbol of protection, of justice, and it could smash its way through Nazis and aliens alike.
As it turns out, it could also smash through several layers of gold-titanium, and the human sternum, ribcage, lungs, and heart beneath it.
Steve kills Tony in Siberia, and the world is woefully unprepared when Thanos arrives not long after. As a last insult to the defeated Avengers, Thanos resurrects their betrayed and murdered former comrade, but his creation turns on him and defeats him. What’s left of the world celebrates, but damage has been done that can never be undone and Tony is… changed. Rhodey is determined to prove that it doesn’t matter: what makes Tony Tony is still there, and they’ll work through anything else.
