Death of Captain America

Hey there,
new to this and already hooked *grin*

Now I'm curious: Are there any stories that are like the comic "The death of Captain America"?
I mean stories in which everyone thinks Steve is dead and then Bucky takes over just to find Steve alive again?
I would love to read something like this!

And where do you find all those amazing stories?
I'm trying to find my way through Archive of our own and Fanfiction.net but it's difficult.

I do the same thing as magic_7_words. I also go to google and type in the names of the characters or ship I'm looking for and the words "rec list".

I've found some great things by googling. Story rec lists, of course. But also meta questions i.e., questions on character motivation and historical background as it would apply to Steve Rogers. (I found a great series of articles with specific information on NYC in the 1930s, including background on the neighborhood Steve grew up in, etc.)
I just type my question into Google and most of the time I find all kinds of interesting links to fannish meta on tumblr, LJ, etc. I started doing this when I noticed fic authors would often use the same "original characters" for villains, allies, etc. Then it occurred to me these were probably canon Marvel comic book characters, and most of the times they were. (This was also how I found out that Hawkeye's wife in Ultron was canon from one comic book series.)

There are some amazing resources out there! I first got into MCU fandom the day I saw "Thor: The Dark World". I went home intrigued by Loki, went to AO3 - and found 17,000+ stories with him as a character. There were a couple of authors I'd followed in other fandoms who I knew were writing MCU stories; I looked for their work, found stories I liked, read their bookmarks; began following other authors; read *their* bookmarks; ran across a rec list by accident; began googling for more rec lists and then began googling for meta posts as well. There's *so much* out there, and so many good stories. I'm so glad I found these tools to separate out stories I enjoy reading because reading at random can be so frustrating.
