Asgardian society / legal system /culture

Hi everyone,

I've been lately craving fics that include a more in-depth exploration of Asgardian legal system or history or just culture in general. Something where there's more to it than Odin going HUAAARRGGHH on everyone and that's that.

I'm happy for just about any genre, character or pairing, so long as it's MCU and not comic verse. Any ideas?


Also, could we maybe get an Asgard theme tag?

Unfortunately there were no new recs here :( However I did read a story today that has some lovely asgard worldbuilding, and maybe you're interested in it too. It's still a WIP but looks like it might be on the last couple of chapters:
Overlapping Spaces (http://norsekink.livejournal.com/11219.html?thread=25408979#t25408979) by khilari and persephone_kore. It's gen with a Loki & Jane friendship at the centre.
The same two authors have also written A Tale of Two Lokis (http://archiveofourown.org/works/292666/chapters/468245) which I haven't read yet, but also promises worldbuilding.

You're an absolute sweetheart for getting back to me here! I'm really sorry you haven't found more fics but here's hoping some writers are inspired and write stuff soon! I know I do have ideas niggling in the back of my head which possibly have potential... I'm looking forward to reading those! Thank you! *huggles*

The best example of Asgardian world-building that I've seen is in a story that gets recced here all the time: Astolat's Athelas (Thor/Loki) http://archiveofourown.org/works/240043. The second half of the fic is set in Asgard and paints a brilliant picture of the culture there. All showing rather than telling, too, so it's very much a part of the plot and character development.

I hope someone recs others that are less well known. It's a great request.

Summary: Loki has to face justice for waging war against the Earth. In Asgard, when a member of the royal family is put on a trial, the court which is to judge them is made up of a representative from each of the Nine Realms. Since the Midgardians have proved themselves worthy during the Chitauri's attack, Tony is chosen to take part in the trial, too, as the first representative of Midgard of all time.



Mostly Tony, but so far very interesting.
